Exit Blog
In IA design 4 class, I feel that I've lost my direction and confident to my design project and it makes me quite sick and stressed with it. But 1 thing I feel glad is that Mr.David and Mr.Redzwan are presented and guide us during this semester, I do enjoy my design class with them and got a lot of advices that how to do an excellent work to professional step even I do not do well in this semester but it's worth for me.
In IA Tech 4 class, I almost get it all done till the last assignment which given by Ms.Baizura.
I do enjoy all assignments but not for the lecture sections.
Minor 2 class, I think this is an interesting subject that lecturers are actually giving us something different that other Universities may not be having this system. So beside doing interior or architecture design things, we are actually learn about photography, advertising and self-introduction knowledge.
Theories of Architecture class, this subject is actually driving me crazy while I have to read all articles that I'm totally don't understand and explain it all in blog, but I think this is not about the weaknesses of this subject after lecturers gave us the explanation about all the articles given and from them I only understand what was all articles talk about. I think this subject influence me something to my design thinking and it might help me for further developments in the future.
The best moment during this semester is that I learn something new which I never knew before and gain my knowledges which I never get before even there's not much advantages and developments I got from the school but I'll still appreciate it all. Appreciate my worthiness through the best result I've got.
Talk about the philosophy of my future in Architecture field, I think I might still hold my philosophy since I was coming to this field and it's BEAUTY OF THE SIMPLICITY yet I can still create an outstanding design projects. But to say the truth is that normal peoples might appreciate more to the beauty of the spaces with some designated structures instead of the inversely which some experts or professionals can only appreciate it.

Taboo and Transgression, Architecture and Desire
- A double pleasure – pleasure of architecture can only be achieved by merging both pleasure of space and pleasure of geometry/order/concept.
- Gardens of pleasure – garden would be a part for pleasure, in a useless manner, as it is built exclusively for delight.
- Pleasure and necessity
- Bondage – a metaphor of order which the more the restriction, the more the pleasure to be achieved.
- Rationality – By treating classical elements as decaying fragment, rationality of building was carried to the extremes of irrationality.
- Eroticism – eroticism is not the excess of pleasure but the pleasure of excess.
- The mask - a metaphor of seduction that the main objective/meaning of architecture differs from the appearance that creates pleasure.
- Excess – Exceeding is a matter of preserving the erotic capacity of architecture
- Architecture of pleasure – Merging of concept and experience of space as well as transgression of rules bring pleasure of architecture.
- Advertisement for architecture – Architecture is about the function of both sensual experience of a real space and appreciation of rational concept. The unveiling part behind these would be the pleasure part of architecture.
- Desire/fragments – desire is some sort like movement between fragments. Movement is like the core/meaning/function of a design while fragment is like the appearance of a design. The architecture is pleased as it fulfills some utilitarian function.
In the past, architecture rarely transgresses its limit in the reality.
It’s still a desire to exceed the limit that has been set in the architecture world.
According to Foucault: “ Transgression is an action which involves the limit, that narrow zone of a line where it displays the flash of its passage, but perhaps also its entire trajectory, even its origin.”
Hence, a limit has its meaning only when it can be transgressed.
Pushing architecture towards its limit can make the architecture pleasing.
We experience a building through our senses, vision, hearing, smell, tactile and taste.
The most beautiful buildings also reflect our physical bodies and celebrate our senses.
A building is sensuous because it is pleasing to our senses.
In my opinion, I think the property of space decides to encourage human sexual desire.
When human is in a space where has excellent atmosphere and comfortable furniture such as nice sofa with designated coffee table that would definitely make us think that it is a space for relaxing.
In the other situation, to encourage human sexual desire, mostly a space for sexual activity should be a private space, comfortable, secured and less opening and etc.
In the contrary, a space with big opening, more opened to public, poor condition with bad smell and view will definitely prohibit human sexual desire.
Architects seek to express an aura of sensuality when designing.
Nevertheless, there will always be taboo and transgression while designing, such as the balance of form together with function as form will definitely be affected by the function.
For example, bedroom which is a space for resting requires a peaceful feeling. The taboo for designing bedroom is less opening space. However, the desire for having nice atmosphere requires bigger opening.
As a conclusion, I think the balance in considering the taboo and the wish for transgression should be maintained in order to have a good design.

Field trip : Asthetics, Ruins & Space (Kellie's Castle)
Kellies Castle is a mansion with the symbol of love, like the Taj Mahal. And in the architecture, there is definitely some moghul influence visible.
Kellie's Castle was built by a Scottish planter called William Kellie Smith. So he built the castle for his wife because he loved his wife so much.
Smith went for a short trip to Portugal in 1926. He died there of pneumonia. His wife was still in Malaya, heartbroken. She decided to pack and return to Scotland. She sold Kellie's Castle to a British company called Harrisons and Crossfield.
Kellie's Castle was never to be finished. It became a ruine with many legends. Legend of the ghost of Smith wandering through the ruins. Other legends were off secret underground tunnels. But apart of the two known tunnels, none were ever found.
The restoration of Kellie's castle
At arrival at Kellie's Castle you can "meet" William Kellie Smith and his two children. Their sculptures are standing on the exterior wall. The one of his beloved wife fell off some years back.
The tunnels have been sealed off for safety reasons. The rumour is that Smith's car is parked in one of the tunnels. True or not, I can't tell.
The beauty of the mansion :
I think this sculpture would be nicer if the mansion is completely constructed but unfortunately it wasn't.
Through this picture, it is actually to show the interesting contrast of this mansion, this area is appropriately held in the middle of the building.

An architecture of seven senses
I always create a thing by consider for general thinking, uses, functions and flexibilities.
I have my own habit since I came into this field and it feels like a little bit strange and it's :
- Like to touch every textures or materials that I can see and feel interesting or never seen it before in my life, then I'll start to imagine that it would be awesome if I apply those textures at every suitable spaces.
- Like to examine with every interesting structures, circulations, scent of the spaces, the atmospheres very carefully, no matter I'm at restaurants, retail shops, night clubs outdoor buildings, then I might reuse it into my design idea development.
- Like to realize and understand with every structures that could influence me to my design thinking and slowly analyze it.
According to this article, there are some other authors did wrote some similarity with this article such as :
-Laura Hollengreen who talks about the "Jewish bodies, Christian senses, and Urban spaces" and she did mentioned some elements from this article.
-Nina Ergin who talks about the "Olfactory Aspects of Ottoman Mosque Architecture"
-Tijana Vujosevic, The haptic Sensorium of the Moscow Metro
-Sandy Isenstadt, Groping in the dark
-Jack Quinan, The Soundscapes of Frank Lloyd Wright's Larkin building

Monuments, Testimony and Memory
So, I would say yes that the Jewish museum is a successful museum in commemorating the dead. It goes through two thousand years of Jewish history in Germany and the contributions of this community to the culture, art and other fields. The architect, Daniel Libeskind, has created a building/museum/artpiece that opens to every visitor to experience, perceptually, mind and body.
Else, the National Museums in Malaysia generally have the same effect with this Jewish Museum either, but there's a big differentiation of the way our National Museum spread the physical and spiritual of the building itself for sure. Daniel Libeskind, the architect of Jewish Museum created this building very closely with the body and soul of the human to the building.
But the most of Museums here were designed more closely to the cultural elements.

Remembering the home
The most memories that I've been lived with my family through childhood was my second house.
My second house isn't so big but as I can describe that it's the most comfortable and protected home i've ever lived in. There's a mini garden, the main door at the middle of the building and quite a number of windows surrounding. There's 2 level high and my room was separated with my parents which their room was on the ground floor and mine at first floor.
Sometimes, I was influenced by my Dad to recycle and reuse a things because he cares so much about the global warming. He moved all the furniture from my first home that can be still use to the second home as where I live in nowadays. Even it looks quite pretty old but sturdy still.
This is my first inspiration to my home design and architectural method.
Secondly, my home is almost covered by plywood surrounding walls and ceiling. It's a textured plywood so I think by applying plywood or even wood texture laminated, it might creates warmness of the house.
These two methods are inspiring me a lot to my design inspiration that I will apply to every of my design projects.
